AWARDS

BEST OF SHOW - Polly Blunk-View from a Covered Bridge # 24
Kristie’s comments- “I was immediately drawn to the subject matter which is historical architecture and felt this painting pays homage to the past. The control of the medium is evident as well as attention to detail is remarkable.”

ARTISTIC MERIT - Suzanne Firsching- sculpture-set of 3 #29
Kristie’s comments- “This sculpture drew me in by the colors and whimsical nature. I love the story-telling nature of the piece.”
ARTISTIC MERIT - Peter Rashford-Passageway #41
Kristie’s comments- “This piece is so intriguing and brought me back to view, examine and wonder over and over again the bright orange sun juxtaposed to the ships below. They bring my gaze back and forth. The use of atmospheric perspective is stunning.”
ARTISTIC MERIT - Roger Cleveland- Endless Opportunities Await #19
Kristie’s comments-“This is  well-balanced and intriguing at first glance. It seems to be a scene of sorts, but the abstraction is so intriguing.”
ARTISTIC MERIT - Marie Lebert-Cartagena Streets #31
Kristie’s comments- “The gestural and loose quality of this painting creates more wonder for the viewer. I really enjoyed the use of colors, overlays, and restraint of the medium-well done.”
ARTISTIC MERIT - David Oster- Lake Effect Skies Over Buffalo #38
Kristie’s comments-“The composition, use of line value, and texture creates a sense of depth that made me come back to view it again and again.”
ROONEY ETC AWARD - Serafina Gape

Further comments from our judge, Kristie Boisen
“I am honored to have been chosen to judge this fabulous show for UAA. This exhibit had so many amazing artworks it was hard to narrow down my choices for awards. When selecting awards, I was conscious of the medium, use of the medium, and pieces that drew me in for another look. Ultimately, the selections chosen were those works that made me ponder, question, study, and come back over and over again. I appreciate all mediums and feel this exhibit is a balance of strong diverse artists in our area and thank you for the opportunity to become part of your artistic world.”
Kristie Boisen

A Tribute to Agriculture and Rural Life

Agriculture is the lifeblood of America. And rural life is the dream of many Americans. That picturesque image captivates us. It tantalizes us with a peace and serenity which we sometimes crave in this ever-bustling world. The National Rural Life Art Exhibition at Utica, New York celebrates rural life, American culture, and the dairy farming experience, the heart of America's food supply.

The National Rural Life Art Exhibition is jointly sponsored by Dairy Farmers of America (DFA) and Utica Art Association (UAA).

Headquarted in Kansas City, MO, with a regional office in Syracuse, NY, Dairy Farmers of America is a dairy marketing cooperative representing nearly 23,000 dairy farmers across the U.S.

For over 150 years, the Utica Art Association has been an active promoter of the arts in Central New York. The UAA sponsor's Central New York's prestigious Tri-County Art Show and The UAA Photography Show.

The National Rural Life Exhibition presents art by UAA and DFA members. Come join us for this tribute.

Local artist issues limited edition print

For Remsen artist Martha Deming recent storms have recalled memories of hours and days spent carefully observing snowplows at work. Gathering resource material for her painting, "...And Miles To Go, Christmas Day 2002," meant waiting in the snow and cold to photograph the plow as it crested the hill in front of her James Road home as well as visiting the Town Barn to talk with the drivers and study details of the plows up close and personal. Her efforts culminated in the watercolor painting, which now hangs in the meeting room of the Remsen Town Hall, donated to the Town by the artist in December of 2003.

The painting reflects Deming's long-standing appreciation for all the folks who are out there in the storms day or night and the powerful machines they drive, keeping the roads clear for the rest of us through our North Country winters. ÊIn response to popular interest in the painting, limited edition prints and note cards are now available, printed by Brodock Press of Utica, NY and available at Adirondack Art in Barneveld and the Fynmore Studio and Gallery in Boonville and New Hartford. This is the first time Deming's work has been available in limited edition prints.
